  Understanding the compositions of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) streams

  Understanding the compositions of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) streams is crucial to address landfill diversion. Organic waste streams (post farm produce and food scraps) is 46% as per studies globally (Please see MSW composition chart). Organic waste streams emit methane gas.

  Methane is a major heat trap, so pinpointing and fixing leaks would have an immediate cooling effect on the planet.

  Creating food supply chains to address food security from food waste streams (post farm produce and food scraps) is critical as OPEX is linked to reducing food prices.

  Zack H. Abdi, Managing Director, Provectus
  

  Bio: 

  Zack H. Abdi is the Managing Director of Provectus Enterprising Inc. and a passionate advocate for green solutions and sustainable human development. With a career spanning multiple sectors, he has managed initiatives in ERP/CRM solutions, alternative energy, corporate social responsibility (CSR) training, and competency development for sustainable human resources.

  His commitment to inclusive innovation led to the launch of a robotics program tailored for children with special needs in partnership with Dubai Municipality Children’s City. Currently, Zack is deeply involved in promoting sustainable municipal waste collection and recycling practices. His work includes converting food waste streams, aerosol cans, PET bottles, and used cooking oil into valuable resources such as biodiesel—advancing the circular economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and landfill burden.

  Zack serves as an advisor for the Community Social Innovation Toronto chapter and is a regular speaker on workforce development for Indigenous communities through nationalization programs. He is a Board Member of the World Green Growth Organization and an active member of several leading environmental and innovation associations, including ONEIA, OCTIA, CFIN, CIFST, and Foresight Canada. He also contributes to the Standards Council of Canada’s Study Group on Food Loss and Food Waste.

  In recognition of his efforts toward social integration and environmental sustainability, Zack was awarded the prestigious Books for Peace International Award in 2021.

  Nicole Inwentash BA, CNP, RNCP, Registered Holistic Nutritionist
  

  Bio:  Nicole is a Toronto based Holistic Nutritionist who specializes in weight loss, digestion, and healthy eating. She is also the founder of NUTRITIOUSLY NICOLE INC., a brand, Instagram, blog, and nutrition practice.

  Her personal journey to holistic nutrition began during high school when she started experiencing digestive issues. She was eventually diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Doctors prescribed medication, and constantly told her to eat more fibre and drink more water, but nothing was making her feel better.

  After visiting a food sensitivity practitioner, she was advised to cut out certain food groups (gluten, dairy and corn) to see if she would notice any changes. To her surprise, after 2 weeks, her body felt better, and her digestion was improving. Nicole has been off gluten and dairy for over 15 years, and it has been life changing for her.

  Nicole has been practicing nutrition for 11 years and she is an expert in designing specific individualized nutrition programs with a focus on how lifestyle impacts health. Nicole is best known as the “Product Queen”! She loves to research the latest and greatest healthy products on the market. She finds excitement when she can provide her clients and followers a healthy alternative or as she likes to call it, a “healthy swap”.
